Our FY19 annual report shows how we fulfill our function for San Diego. We host life-changing events with attendees who support our local economy by spending money and creating an economic ripple effect throughout our region.
“Many times, we do not realize how many individuals are required to create the experience that draws people to one of the top convention centers in the country,” said President & CEO Clifford “Rip” Rippetoe. “We thank our staff, in-house partners and labor partners who offer the highest service in the industry, share our commitment to sustainability and continually innovate to ensure the most efficient operations, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
We broke another record by generating $29 million in Hotel and Sales Tax revenue. This is money that funds our local government and depends on the visitors we bring. In FY19, for every dollar the City of San Diego invested in the Convention Center, we returned $1.80; and that's separate from our immense economic benefit.
Additional accomplishments in FY19 include:
- Winning Best Convention Center in the Western United States from Prevue Magazine.
- Hosting the International Association of Venue Manager’s Region 7 Conference.
- Having San Diego named the 4th best meeting destination by Cvent.
- Hosting Cisco Live, an event that blew past the food & beverage revenue record Cisco set four years prior.
Our FY19 annual report also recognizes our 30th anniversary and features some of our all-star staff who helped make our 30 years of success possible.
“We hope you enjoy the featured profiles as our way of lifting the roof off this iconic building so you can see how your San Diego Convention Center has been bringing people together in the heart of the city for three decades,” said Xema Jacobson, who was Chair of our Board in FY19. “We thank the hundreds of hard-working San Diegans who contribute to our success every day.”
