The San Diego Convention Center Corporation (SDCCC) was named Large Service Provider of the Year by the San Diego County Chapter of the California Restaurant Association (CRA) on Tuesday, June 1st. This award honors the large service provider that excels in serving the hospitality industry and is an active member of the CRA San Diego and the community at large.
“We’re honored to be awarded the Large Service Provider of the Year,” said Carol Wallace, president and CEO of the SDCCC. “The Convention Center has enjoyed a strong partnership with the CRA and their member restaurants are one of the reasons our destination is so successful at attracting convention and meeting business.”
Since opening, the Convention Center has operated a Concierge Desk in the main lobby for the purpose of introducing attendees to San Diego’s world-class dining scene, as well as to promote local restaurants. Thousands of convention attendees from around the globe are referred to CRA members annually, supporting San Diego’s local restaurant industry and highlighting our city’s position as a top-tier dining destination. In addition, the Convention Center produces the Visit San Diego Guide, a complimentary annual publication for convention attendees featuring comprehensive restaurant information.
Convention Center staff has also partnered with local CRA board members to help win convention business for San Diego. This includes helping to bring the 24,000 attendees of the Western Food Services/CRA Show to San Diego for the first time in August 2009 and the Winter Fancy Food and Confection Show in 2008. Combined, these two conventions generated $70.9 million in regional economic impact and $2 million in tax revenues for the city of San Diego.
