Nico Ferraro Joins the San Diego Convention Center Corporation Board of Directors

The San Diego Convention Center Corporation (SDCCC) is pleased to announce the addition of Nico Ferraro to its board of directors. Recently appointed by Mayor Jerry Sanders and the San Diego City Council, he will replace Bryan Min, who resigned in November 2008.

Mr. Ferraro worked in the pipefitter trades for 40 years and assumed many leadership roles during his career because of his ability to find common ground. He began as an apprentice steamfitter in New York in the early ‘70s and moved to San Diego where he became active in employee representation. Mr. Ferraro was elected to the Executive Board of Local 230 and eventually served as the pipefitter business representative. In 1997 he was appointed to business manager and represented the diverse divisions of the union as trustee to the pension, health and welfare funds until his retirement in 2008.

Governor Gray Davis appointed Mr. Ferraro to the Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Board, overseeing working conditions for the mining, drilling and construction industries. He was also honored by the San Diego Building Trades as the “John Lyons Labor Leader of the Year” and the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council as “Labor Leader of the Year.”

The SDCCC has a 9-member board of directors who set policy for the corporation. The San Diego City Council appoints seven voting members to 3-year terms. Two ex-officio members, or non-voting members, are appointed by the San Diego County Hotel-Motel Association and the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The San Diego Convention Center Corporation manages, markets and operates the San Diego Convention Center. In its 20-year history, the facility has proved to be a vital economic engine, generating $18 billion in economic impact and $360 million in tax dollars for the region.
