The San Diego Convention Center Corporation and our food and beverage partner, Centerplate, are introducing a new recipe campaign for clients called Signature Dishes, Favorite Recipes From our Kitchen to Yours. Beginning Nov. 16, 2009, clients can expect a monthly e-recipe from the Convention Center’s award-winning Executive Chef Jeff Leidy. The e-recipes are directly linked to our newly created Web site section, http://recipes.visitsandiego.com/, where Convention Center clients, guests or anyone wishing to discover their own inner chef, will find many of Leidy’s tastiest dishes, useful cooking tips, an "Ask the Chef" feature and a comment section to share cooking experiences.
"Food is one of the most important elements of a convention, but it’s also one of life’s basic pleasures. We’ve combined both worlds with this new campaign," said Carol Wallace, the San Diego Convention Center Corporation’s president and CEO.
"It’s a personal approach allowing clients to experience and sample Chef Leidy’s creative cuisine in their own kitchens without having to wait to come to San Diego. The recipes can be shared or prepared for friends and family bringing them together, much like an event, at the holidays or anytime of year," she added.
Since 2004, Leidy’s culinary expertise, innovative management, and high service standards have been an integral part of the Convention Center’s success. Two years ago, Ocean Spray crowned his "Cranberry Mojito" recipe the 2007 Ultimate Cranberry Foodservice Recipe of the Year in a national competition. His award-winning beverage is the featured recipe for the month of November.
"One of the great joys of being the chef at the San Diego Convention Center is having the opportunity to work in a locale that provides me with wonderful locally grown ingredients and having the ability to incorporate those products into the menus that we provide to all of our clients," said Leidy.
"Taking my passion for varied cuisines and developing those ideals into delicious recipes, not only for our guests, but for other people who want to enjoy the San Diego experience in their own homes is a phenomenal opportunity and a great honor. I hope that this website will create an extended passion for these recipes, as it has for me," he said.
Under his supervision, the Convention Center kitchen has also moved towards more healthful cuisine eliminating trans-fats from food prepared on site.
Now celebrating 20 years of success, the Convention Center has generated $18.3 billion in regional economic impact, $364 million in tax revenues for the City of San Diego and supports 12,500 jobs countywide. The San Diego Convention Center Corporation is a public benefit corporation created by the city to exclusively market, manage and operate the 2.6 million sf waterfront facility.
