San Diego Convention Center Corporation Names Kathleen Callender Director of National Accounts

The San Diego Convention Center Corporation is pleased to announce Kathleen Callender, CMP, has joined the corporation as Director of National Accounts.  Callender will be based out of the corporation’s Washington DC sales office and handle all responsibilities for booking and contracting national conventions and trade shows at San Diego’s award-winning bayside facility.  She will also assist with developing and implementing marketing strategies to drive increased business to the building.

The San Diego Convention Center Corporation is one of the only convention facilities in the nation to be solely responsible for its own sales and marketing activities.  As a result, the Convention Center is able to offer clients a “one-stop-shopping,” seamless sales approach.

"Kathy has a wealth of experience and an in-depth knowledge of the meeting industry," said Andy Mikschl, senior vice president of sales.  "She’s a seasoned professional and brings a great deal of energy and excitement to our team."

A certified meeting planner, Callender has over 25 years of experience in the meeting industry.  Before joining the Convention Center Corporation, she worked for the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau as the Regional Director of Sales in their Washington DC office.  She has also worked for the Denver Convention and Visitors Bureau and has represented the cities of Boston, Miami, and Colorado Springs. Callender is an active member of the Professional Convention Management Association and has served as the chair of the Business Partner Advisory Council of GWSAE, now ASAE & the Center for Association Leadership.

The San Diego Convention Center Corporation is a public benefit corporation created by the City of San Diego. The Corporation is exclusively responsible for marketing, managing and operating the Convention Center. In its 19-year history, the Center has generated nearly $15.2 billion in economic impact, over $309.8 million in tax revenues and continues to serve as San Diego’s premier gathering place.
