Board of Directors
A nine-member board of directors, comprised of business and community leaders, establishes policy for the Corporation. The Mayor and City Council of San Diego appoint seven members and two non-voting members represent the Hotel-Motel Association and the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Bob Nelson
Chair
Bob Nelson is an advertising and public relations executive with 30 years of experience in government and communications. The company he founded, BNA Communications, advises a diverse list of clients, including utility companies, labor unions and non-profit organizations. A strong community leader, he currently serves as chair of San Diego's Citizens Revenue Review and Economic Competitiveness Commission and as secretary-treasurer of San Diego Theatres, Inc., operator of the San Diego Civic Theatre and the Balboa Theatre. He formerly served on San Diego's Public Utilities Advisory Commission; the San Diego County District Attorney's Community Advisory Board; the board of directors of the San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center; and the Finance Committee of the Greater San Diego Business Association. Mr. Nelson joined the SDCCC board in 2006.

Alexis Gutierrez
Vice Chair
Alexis Gutierrez is a business lawyer and partner in the law firm of Higgs, Fletcher & Mack LLP. He advises and litigates on behalf of companies and their boards in both state and federal courts on issues involving business, labor, employment and intellectual property. Mr. Gutierrez also has considerable non- and for-profit board experience as legal counsel and member. He is presently the Chairman of the Board of the American Red Cross San Diego-Imperial Counties Chapter, Chairman of the life sciences trade organization PGC200, and member of the San Diego Theaters Board. Mr. Gutierrez holds degrees from California State Polytechnic University and the University of San Diego School of Law.

Nikki Clay
Secretary/Treasurer
Nikki Clay is a partner at the government relations firm of Carpi & Clay working with private- and public-sector companies and organizations to develop and implement government, community and media relations strategies and programs. She served as a Budget and Policy Analyst in the County Office of Management and Budget and as Director of Special Projects for the County's Chief Administrative Officer. An active community member, she's a board member of the Downtown San Diego Partnership and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. She holds a master's degree in public administration and bachelor's degree in liberal arts from San Diego State.
Phil Blair
Mr. Blair is one of the driving forces behind Manpower of San Diego, the largest Manpower franchise in the U.S. Manpower provides quality employment opportunities, training and workforce solutions. A leading employment industry expert, he contributes frequently to local business publications, is a long-time KUSI-TV employment commentator and is the author of Strategies for Success, a career resource guide. He serves on the board of directors for the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce; the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Benefits Corporation; LEAD San Diego; the United Way; and the Holiday Bowl. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University.
Chris Cramer
Chris Cramer is the CEO and co-founder of Karl Strauss Brewing Company. Mr. Cramer has more than 15 years of experience in the microbrewery field and operates four high-volume brewery restaurants in the San Diego area. He currently serves on the board of directors of several associations, including the San Diego Taxpayers Association, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce and the state and local chapters of the California Restaurant Association. He received his undergraduate degree and MBA from Stanford University.
Nico Ferraro
Nico Ferraro worked in the pipe trades industry assuming numerous leadership roles in his 40-year career. During his career, he became known for his teamwork philosophy and his ability to get things done. His political career with the Plumbers and Pipefitters union spanned 19 years where he represented the diverse divisions of the union in many ways until retiring in 2008. Governor Gray Davis appointed him to the Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Board, and he was also honored by the San Diego Building Trades as the “John Lyons Labor Leader of the Year 2000” and the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council as “Labor Leader of the Year 2007.” He has an Associate of Science degree in Labor Studies from San Diego City College.
Cheryl Kendrick
Cheryl Kendrick is a marketing and community relations professional who most recently served as campaign director for the United Way of San Diego County where she was directly responsible for the non-profit organization's annual fund-raising campaign. Committed to volunteer service at both the regional and national level, Ms. Kendrick is past chair of the California State Commission on the Status of Women and has served on the national boards of the National Conference for Community and Justice and the Huntington's Disease Society of America. Ms. Kendrick received her B.A. in French from the University of Connecticut.
Bruce L. Goodwin, ISHC

Bruce Goodwin is the managing principal of Goodwin & Associates (G&A), a hospitality industry consulting firm based in San Diego and Mexico City. G&A specializes in acquisition and development consulting for hospitality industry related projects in the southwestern U.S. and throughout Mexico and Central America. He has over 30 years of consulting experience and 15 years of direct hotel management experience. Clients of G&A include international hotel chains and financial institutions. Mr. Goodwin currently serves on the boards of the San Diego Hotel-Motel Association, the Vista Hill Foundation and the International Society of Hospitality Consultants.

Matthew (Mick) Musella

Matthew Musella is COO of the Zoological Society of San Diego, overseeing the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park operations, architecture, planning, corporate merchandising and marketing. He serves as a professional fellow at the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, second vice chair of the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau’s board of directors and member of its executive and finance committees, and trustee of the San Diego County Teamsters Employers Insurance Trust. Mr. Musella attended California State University, Northridge.

President & CEO
Carol Wallace is responsible for the overall management of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation. She is the past president of the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM) and currently holds board positions for the International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC), the San Diego Hotel-Motel Association and is a chartering member, past chair and current board member of the United States International University (USIU) -Nairobi, Kenya. Ms. Wallace is a graduate of The Ohio State University.
