Skip Jurus
SDCCC Doorman/Greeter |
Skip Jurus, one of the friendliest and well-known doorman/greeters decided to spend more time with his 'other' family after more than 21 years of faithful service at our bayfront facility.
"It's been a privilege and honor to meet and greet people from around the world while representing the San Diego Convention Center Corporation (SDCCC) and the City of San Diego," says Jurus. "I've met millions of individuals over the years that I've worked here and consider many of our guests close personal friends."
After working 2-3 jobs for the last 53 years, including serving in the U.S. Navy (Seabees), the Department of Defense and the San Diego Redevelopment Agency, in addition to the SDCCC, Jurus said it was finally time to hang up his nautical uniform and get some rest.
"The time is right for me to leave my home at the SDCCC to be able to spend more time at my other home with Betty, my wife of 54 years," added Jurus.
Staff members gathered together last month to give Jurus a heartfelt goodbye party and to honor an employee who truly personified what we fondly refer to at our facility as 'The San Diego Spirit.'
"Skip has been a shining example of 'San Diego Spirit' - a total service commitment by every one of our employees to proudly represent and personally welcome every guest who comes to visit San Diego," says Carol Wallace, SDCCC president and CEO. "We will miss Skip's warm handshake and engaging smile at the Corporation. But the legacy he has left will be with all of us who know and love Skip forever."
