San Diego Convention Center Corporation Profile

The San Diego Convention Center Corporation (SDCCC) is a non-profit public benefit corporation created by the City of San Diego to manage and market the San Diego Convention Center. A nine-member board of directors comprised of business and community leaders establishes policy for the SDCCC.

The Convention Center opened in November 1989 and an expansion, which doubled the size of the original building, opened in September 2001. In 1993 the city of San Diego transferred management of the San Diego Concourse, a mid-sized meeting facility that originally opened in 1964 and the San Diego Civic Theatre to the SDCCC.  The Civic Theatre is now managed by San Diego Theatres Inc., a non-profit subsidiary of the SDCCC and responsibility for the Concourse was transferred back to the City of San Diego in July 2005.

The SDCCC’s primary mission is to attract conventions and trade shows that generate economic benefits and growth for San Diego. The Convention Center has generated nearly $11 billion in economic impact since opening in 1989 and continues to generate about 12,500 jobs county-wide. In FY05, the Center hosted over 224 events that generated $1.2 billion in regional economic impact and $25.5 million in hotel room and sales tax revenues.

The SDCCC manages an annual budget of $27.8 million and employs a staff of approximately 620 people including 248 full-time and 372 part-time employees at the Convention Center.

The SDCCC, to insure exceptional customer service and quality workmanship for its clients, has labor agreements with nine local unions including:
